50 mm Face HeightA discreet edge that still holds a line

Recycled plastic edging that bends by hand.

A 50 mm black edge with three 20 cm spiral spikes per metre in the box. The cheapest way to get a clean line.

The plastic kit is the one most people start with, and for a lawn edge it is usually the right answer.

It is 100% recycled plastic, fully recyclable again, and it bends to a curve in your hands with no heat and no cutting.

Every metre comes with three 20 cm spiral spikes. The spiral is what stops frost heave lifting the edge out over a winter, which is where cheap straight pegs fail.

At 50 mm it sits low. That is deliberate: it is enough to stop a mower wheel dropping into the bed and not so much that you are looking at a wall.

It will take gravel, bark, stone or turf on either side.

Garden Edging Kit 50 mm (per metre)

Plastic edging has a reputation problem, most of it earned by thin brown strip that goes brittle in two summers. This is not that. It is heavy gauge recycled plastic, and the thing that makes it work is the spike rather than the strip.

Garden Edging Kit 50 mm (per metre)

The spikes are 20 cm and spiralled. A straight peg in wet New Zealand clay works its way up every freeze and thaw cycle until the edge is standing proud of the lawn by spring. A spiral has to rotate to come out, and it does not.

Garden Edging Kit 50 mm (per metre)

Installation is genuinely a job for one person and a rubber mallet. Lay the run, push the edge into the line you want, then drive the spikes through the tabs. There is no trench.

Garden Edging Kit 50 mm (per metre)

For a run shorter than a metre, cut it with garden shears. We ship whole metres, so nothing is cut to your measurement before it leaves us and this shop's 15 day change-of-mind policy covers it like anything else here.

Garden Edging Kit 50 mm (per metre)

If you want more spikes than the three per metre that come as standard, the plastic edging spikes are sold separately in packs of 10, 50 and 100.

Not sure yet? That is fine.

You can change your mind. Under this shop's own returns policy you have 15 days from purchase to send it back in resaleable condition, at your cost and with a $39 handling fee per order. We refund the price you paid, including standard delivery.

If it turns up faulty, damaged or not as described, that is on us. The Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 covers you, we pay the return postage, and you can have a repair, a replacement or your money back. Read the full detail on our refunds and returns page, or ask us anything before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What height is the edging?

50 mm. It sits low enough to be discreet and high enough to stop a mower wheel dropping into the bed.

What comes in the box?

The black edging plus three 20 cm rust proof spiral spikes for every metre you order.

Do I need extra spikes?

Usually not. Three per metre is enough in firm soil. On sand, on fresh topsoil, or where a run is holding a tight curve, order a pack of the plastic edging spikes as well.

Why spiral spikes rather than straight pegs?

A straight peg works its way up through a winter of freezing and thawing until the edge stands proud of the lawn. A spiral has to rotate to move, so it stays down.

What is it made from?

100% recycled plastic, and it is recyclable again at end of life.

Will it bend around a curve?

Yes, by hand, with no heat and no cutting. It is the most flexible edging in the range.

How do I cut it shorter?

Garden shears. It cuts cleanly and does not need a saw.

Do you cut it to my length before sending it?

No. You order whole metres and cut anything shorter yourself, so this shop's 15 day change-of-mind policy covers it like anything else here.

What tools do I need to install it?

A rubber mallet, and that is genuinely it. There is no trench to dig.

Will it hold gravel back?

Yes, on a path edge. For a deep gravel bed or a change of level, the 200 mm stainless is the better choice.

Does it go brittle in the sun?

It is made for outdoor use and does not become brittle the way thin brown strip edging does.

Can I take it up and re-lay it?

Yes. Turn the spikes out rather than levering them, and both the edging and the spikes go back in.

What colour is it?

Black.

Will it stop grass runners?

It slows them. At 50 mm it is a shallower barrier than the steel ranges, so for a lawn that sends runners aggressively the 100 mm black steel or corten is the stronger answer.

Can I use it against turf, bark and stone?

Yes, all three, and gravel too.

How much do I order?

Measure the run in metres and order that number. Add a little for a curve, which uses slightly more than the straight line distance.

Does it need painting or treating?

No. It is a moulded plastic with the colour through it.

Is it the same as the decorative stone effect border?

No. This is a functional edge that sits low and disappears; the decorative border is a moulded stone look kerb sold per 24 cm section.

How much is delivery?

Delivery anywhere in New Zealand is NZD 25, and it is free once your order reaches NZD 100. There is one delivery service rather than a choice of speeds.

How long does delivery take?

Five to seven days, after a 24 to 48 hour handling time while the order is picked and packed.

Do you deliver across the whole NZ?

Yes, anywhere in New Zealand, from Cape Reinga to Bluff, including Waiheke and Stewart Island.

Is there a minimum order?

No. The per metre and per section ranges are sold by the unit, so you can order one metre or one section if that is all you need.

Can I change my mind after it arrives?

Yes, under this shop's own policy. New Zealand law gives no automatic cooling-off period on an online order, so this is goodwill rather than a statutory right: you have 15 days from purchase, the goods come back in resaleable condition at your cost, and a $39 handling fee applies per order. Email us with your order number first.

What if the item is faulty or not what was described?

That is a separate and stronger right under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, and it is not limited to a number of days: it runs for as long as the goods should reasonably have lasted. You can ask for a repair, a replacement or a refund, and we pay the return postage.

Who pays return postage if I simply change my mind?

You do, unless the item is faulty or we sent the wrong thing.

Can I cancel before it ships?

Yes. Contact us with your order number as soon as you can. Most orders are picked within 24 hours, so the sooner the better.

How do I track my order?

You get a confirmation email with a tracking number once the order ships. Items in one order can travel in separate parcels.

What payment methods do you take?

Card payment and PayPal, both through a secure checkout. Card details are handled by the payment provider and never reach this site.

What currency are prices in?

New Zealand dollars, and that is what your card is charged.

Do you sell to trade or in bulk?

Yes. Use the wholesale quote page with the lengths and quantities you need and we will come back with a price.
